Information
Interested in any of the Affiliate Trips, invitation sites, or missionaries listed above? Begin to dialogue with the AIM Affiliate or missionary host about the possibilities for your team. If there are other areas of the world you are interested in, or a particular missionary you would like to work with, let us know at: aim@ag.org or call 417-862-2781 x4039. We'll be happy to discuss more possibilities with you!
Team Leaders, when you have received an e-mail invitation from an AG Missionary host, here is what you need to do to help us have your trip approved as an AIM team through Assemblies of God World Missions (AGWM) prior to your trip:
Please check out the AIM website . The AIM Outreach Packet can be found under Resources.
Read through the AIM requirements/recommendations and participant forms carefully, and if you have any questions, let us know. The participant/leader forms can be adapted for your use.
From the packet, we will only need the AIM Outreach Form as well as a copy of your host missionary's e-invite or letter faxed to us at: 417.862.1693 so that we can seek approval for your trip from AGWM.
For foreign trips, purchase AIM insurance from Brotherhood Mutual Insurance (1.800.876.4994) for each participant. Make sure that you tell Brotherhood that you are an AIM team in order to receive the reduced price list. There are four levels of coverage and cost you can choose from. For stateside trips, purchase AIM insurance from Special Markets Insurance Consultants (1-800-818-7642 x3). Again, in order to receive the reduced price list, please make sure that you tell Special Markets that you are an AIM team.
Soon after your trip, fax (417.862.1693) or mail the completed AIM Outreach Report Form to the national AIM office so we can apply giving credit to your church for the total expenses of your trip. Our mailing address is: AIM, 1445 Boonville Avenue, Springfield, MO 65802.
The AIMer and AIM Leader Training Manuals are outstanding resources. We recommend that you purchase one for each of your students and leaders. One crucial tidbit in the manual is an important recommendation that each minor participant's parents are given the Center for Disease Control's recommendations for your destination country. Parents of minor participants and their personal physician need to decide what recommendations to follow. As well, the Parental Consent and Assumption of Risk forms in this packet are very important. Make sure your leader takes completed copies of those along on the trip. Many districts and churches are screening their staff and volunteers through companies like Volunteer Select. The AIMer and AIM Leader Training Manuals are full of these types of helpful directions.
The need for "background checks" for adult supervisors of minors has become increasingly important in recent years. Richard Hammar, legal counsel for the General Council of the Assemblies of God, is widely viewed as the foremost expert on sexual abuse in churches. He advises churches to take this evident threat to children's safety seriously. "I just concluded my research on church litigation that occurred in 2005," states Hammar. "The number one reason that churches were in court involved sexual molestation of a minor. This is not an issue that is going away. Sadly, my research demonstrates that no more than a third of the churches in this country are doing any screening of volunteer youth workers. Churches that continue to ignore this problem are exposing themselves, and the vulnerable members of their congregation, to an unacceptable level of risk." For professionally-developed resources on how to protect your church, some of which Hammar has created, see: http://www.reducingtherisk.com.
Feel free to email aim@ag.org if we can assist you further or answer any questions that you may have. We pray that you have a safe and fruitful trip.
